DESCRIPTION

Army General's visor cap is made of a doeskin type wool with dark green bank, tarnished gold metallic bullion piping and chincords. Gilt metal eagle and wreath with non-vented cockade. The visor shows some crazing to the finish. The interior is lined with golden yellow silk or rayon and is complete with its intact sweatshield, under which is silver stamped 'Offizier Kleiderkasse Erel Sonderklasse'. The sweat band is the roll-over type rather than the higher level padded and ventilated type, patented by and normally associated with Erel visor caps. The roll-over type is found on the mid to later war Erel caps with or without marking. This example is an unmarked, generic leather sweat band. The leather shows dark peppering which appears to be old mold staining. As can be seen in the images, some of the stitching holding the sweat band to the cap band has broken at the rear left area. Scarce example of a later war period Army General's visor cap.
