A scarce early version of the German Cross in Gold. The cross was made by Deschler and is the 6 rivet type with short and tapered pin. The award is in excellent condition showing only normal wear with much of the original gilt finish remaining on the wreath, no sign of the later die flaw, and no chips or cracks to the black enameled swastika. The starburst retains the majority of its blackened finish. The reverse features the early hinge and short tapered pin with the original undamaged square wire catch. The reverse of the star shows normal wear from being worn. The piece is complete with its rare original early small leatherette covered presentation case with raised, black velvet covered base, white satin lined inner lid, and push button closure. The exterior of the case shows some wear with a small amount of leatherette missing as can be seen in the photos. An outstanding example of one of the earliest German Cross patterns.
