Diplomatic ensemble consisting of visor cap, formal diplomatic tailcoat, and black matching vest. The cap is made of fine quality thick gaberdine wool with braided aluminum piping and hand embroidered bullion eagle and wreath. Interestingly, the maker's label indicates that it was made by an Italian cap maker "Cigna Melchiorre" in Torino. Off white silk lined with full sweatshield with maker's marking and logo. The sweatband shows minimal wear and therer are a couple of minor marks on the lining of the top.  The formal tailcoat features magnificently hand embroidered bullion oakleaves and acorns across the collar.  The lapels are silk covered and the sleeves end in deep turned back cuffs. There is a hand embroidered bullion diplomatic eagle on the breast area, and shoulder boards indicating the original wearer was in career group II complete with gilt eagles. A dress aiguillete is attached under the wearer's right shoulder board. The interior is black silk or artificial silk lined. The vest is the regulation 4 button pattern with lapels and eagle buttons. The tailcoat shows wear and use and is dusty--a careful low-powered vacuuming would be beneficial.

It would be an interesting project to see if it is possible to identify the original wearer of the ensemble!
