A near mint example of the cotton twill kepi worn by a member of the SA Group Südmark, located in Austria. The kepi is of textbook 1937 pattern construction with a rose-pink wool color band with the correct air vent in each side. The brown leather chin-strap shows use and is held on with the early snap buttons. The Austrian-type Edelweiß of grey metal is sewn to the left side of the kepi. Note that the Edelweiß is not sewn onto a lozenge shaped rose pink patch, as is usually seen,  but is sewn directly to the cap.  This was the method initially employed until it was found that the stems of the flowers would break regularly.  Subsequently, they sewn to a wool patch which was then sewn to the kepi. The interior top is lined with waterproofed fabric which is marked with an eagle in an oval with "Rosshaar" (horsehair) and "Wasserdicht" (waterproof) below. The sweatband is the standard ersatz leather and beneath it is sewn its original RZM Dienstmütze label. If the kepi was worn, it was certainly worn very little. Outstanding kepi showing only normal age.
