DESCRIPTION

Scarce, early reproduction black SS General's visor cap which includes some original parts and fabrics. This is one of the so-called 'Alteste' fake caps that I believe was made by Dr. Breuer in München in the 50s and 60s. The cap is constructed of black trikot wool with a short napped velvet band (as found on originals). The black vulkanfiber visor is original with waffled back and the cap has been stored long enough that the chin cords have left marks in the glossy black finish. The cap is piped with braided aluminum bullion piping. The skull and eagle are reproductions and are more recent than the rest of the cap. The interior is lined with black artificial silk and has a 'Müller' maker's name in the sweat diamond. The cap is nicely padded and the peak stiffener looks original as well. The sweatband is a hinged 'Stirndrückfrei' type. The sweatband has stamped numbers on its reverse that all of the Alteste caps seem to have. Someone has added some extra "SS" stampings in red ink to the sweatband's reverse side. There are 2 splits in the leather as can be seen in the images. The size is about a 56 1/2 or 57 (about a US 7 1/8).  The cap shows age (it's 50 or 60 years old) but no damage except for the sweatband. If you need a visor that isn't a modern copy to display with an SS General's tunic without spending large amounts of money, this might be for you!
