An outstanding WWI Purple Heart group, named to Nathan Erlich.  It includes his WWI engraved Purple Heart with serial number (still pinned on the cream box insert), a letter home dated September 30 1918 to his parents, which he wrote with his left hand, due to injuries sustained.  Also included is a telegram dated November 8, 1918 from Paris to his parents, stating that hey's okay and not to worry.  Also includes a 3rd document, his discharge paper.  This soldier was a member of the 77th Division, referred to as "Old Smokey" after Andrew Jackson.  The major operations the 30th Division took part in were the Ypres-Lys, and the Somme offensive, in which it was one of the two American divisions to break the Hindenburg Line in the Battle of St. Quentin Canal. The division had, in three months, from July until October 1918, sustained 1,237 officers and men killed in action (KIA), with a further 7,178 wounded in action (WIA) or missing in action (MIA).  Great possibility for further research.
