DESCRIPTION

This is a Japanese Police Officer dress saber, denoted by the five petal cherry blossom mon on the side of the handle.  Hitl is heavy brass with even age toning.  Black buffalo horn grip is free of cracks and chips, with the wire wrap slightly loose in a couple of spots.  Scabbard is in outstanding condition, with most of the nickel plating present, covered in a nicotine or other material that should not be cleaned off.  Chrome plated machine made blade shows a slight artificial temper line, and retains most of the plating except minor areas on the tip.  Sword features a family "mon" of either the Hatakeyama or the Imagawa clan, both noble Samurai families from Japanese history.  The sword comes with a WWII navy seaman's uniform, and I personally acquired this group from a local garage sale.  I can attempt to get the name of the deceased veteran for the winner, but no promises, as the estate was handled by an estate liquidator, and there were no additional photos or military records available.
