DESCRIPTION

Imperial Bavarian Officer's Pickelhaube dates from around the turn of the last century. The leather body and visors are in much better condition than usually found, with virtually no shrinkage or craquelure. The helmet would have been worn by an Infantry officer of the Landwehr or Reserve. The brass metal fittings have lost most if not all of their original fire gilt finish.  The cockades are correct for the officer rank. Tall fluted spike sits on a cruciform base.  The interior silk and calfskin liner shows very minor wear but no damage. Very fine example.
