This is a dress axe, with an exquisitely etched head.  Produced anywhere between the Imperial Third Reich period and the end of WWII, this was worn in parade by members of various fire departments throughout Germany.  Shaft paint is nearly perfect, showing only minor age.  Head is heavily plated, and features a crisply etched motif.  I am not certain what the cording is around the axe head, but it appears to have been in place for a very long time.  Handle 13.75 in lenght.  Head measures 8 x 3 in
