DESCRIPTION

Rare SS ID card for (at the time) Obersturmbannführer Wolfram Sievers, who was the managing director of the Ahnenerbe (Ancestral Heritage). The Ahnenerbe was an organization founded by Himmler, Darre, and Wirth dedicated to researching the archaeological and culteral history of the Aryan race.  The German research team represented in the first "Indiana Jones" film was based on the Ahnenerbe. Sievers was tried at the Nürnberg 'Doctors' Trial' and was condemned to death for 'Crimes against Humanity' on 20. August 1947. His execution took place on 2. June 1948 at Landsberg prison.  There is much information about Sievers and the Ahnenerbe online, so I won't go into details about his unusual career. The ID card notes that Sievers is part of the personal staff of the Reichsführer SS, has Sievers' photograph and unique 'Sigrune' signature, and has the affixed paper label with expiration date in 1943 with earlier paper labels beneath it. There is some sort of tape or other layer in this area of the card, which was applied assumably to preserve the expiration labels. The ID also conveys the right to carry a pistol.  There are some foxing or rust marks in the upper left corner of the card, and overall it shows age and wear from being carried during the period.
