This outstanding grouping was obtained from the estate of James Lassiter.  The group includes a book dedicated to him by Colonel Wallace Chives, who was the author of the book, entitled Snow Ridge and Pillboxes.  The book is a history of the 274th Infantry Regiment in WWII.  According to the family, who wishes to remain anonymous, Lassiter obtained the grouping of SS material while involved post-war in a veteran's organization.  According to history, the 274th Regiment was involved in fighting against Division Nord, and Lassiter became involved with the veteran's organization after the war.  Included in the militaria group is an SS ring (made of sliver plated brass, with enamel front SS rune, and no markings), an SS Membership Pin (see photos), as well as a "Nord" division membership pin, ostensibly worn by a veteran after the war.  The centerpiece of the group is an artificial damascus letter opener produced after the war (most likely by Paul Muller) for the division's veteran organization.  In raised Gold lettering, the piece commemorates the unit's fighting in Karelia, which was a historical province of Finland, party ceded to Russia after the Winter War of 1939-1940.  The Germans saw action there as they fought to free the Finnish from Russian dominance.  The reverse exhibits the standard SS Motto Meine Ehre heist Treue, in raised gold lettering identical to that found on the SS Honor Dagger or Honor Degen.  Note: the tip of the letter opener is broken off at the very end.  This could be ground down if the new owner desires to do this.  This is a really exciting group that is worthy of further research.
