This late-production sword has been pictured in both Tom Wittmann's difinitive reference on Luftwaffe edged weapons (page 374-375) as well as in Volume IV of Johnson Reference Books "World War II German War Booty."  According to blade expert Tom Wittmann, this is a wartime produced version of the Luftwaffe General Degen, engraved with the original owner's family crest on the front of the scabbard.  On th rear of the scabbard, The reverse of the upper scabbard fitting is engraved "Ihrem Verehrten Kommandeur, zum 30.1.1943" and "Die Offiziere Seines Stabes."  Tranlsated, this reads To our revered Commander, from his staff officers, January 30, 1943.  This sword was preivously owned by Wolfe and Hardin Military antiques.  In Johnson's book, the piece is pictured on pag 78.  The sword is in near flalwess condition, and features a stunning mint-condition blade by the prestigious Carl Eickhorn firm.  Note that this example, as it was not presented by Goring, exhibits a floral-etch blade pattern without Goring's signature blue-panel.  Piece comes complete with a Luftwaffe General burnt-orange storage bag.  An outstanding example sure to be a centerpiece of any edged weapon collection.
