Heavy iron key taken from Spandau Prison that was brought back by an American soldier who was a guard there. The key is wired to a file folder with eagle and swastika. A typed label reads "Key from old Spandau prison 194?".  Below this is a notation about the prisoners: "Hermann Göring, Grand Admiral Karl Döenitz (sic), Rudolph (sic) Hess......and many other war criminals". Below is a US Army envelope with the autograph of Dönitz and an official stamping from "Allied Prison Spandau" and from "Headquarters United States Forces European Theater".  Also a label indicating the GI obtained the signature from Frau Inge Dönitz with her current 1940s address/location.  Additionally there are copies of the ID of a US Federal Corrections Officer who was a guard at the prison 1986 to 1987 with a signed statement attesting to his service there.  He notes that he is certain that the key attached to the file was actually from the prison and would have been used for a cell or at the main gate.  It is identical to the key that hung in the office of the prison's Chief of the Guards. There are also copies of photographs he had taken of the prison's key box.  Several Rudolf Hess items had been consigned by the officer in past History Hunter auctions. The key and the paper attached to the file folder cover show age and handling, but remain in very fine condition. A unique Nürnberg trials/Spandau Prison souvenir.
