DESCRIPTION

1917 pattern trench knife has triangular blade retaining 30% blued finish. Hilt has 65% blackened finish with some minor spots of surface rust; guard is marked with "U.S. / L.F.&C. / 1917" maker's stamp, and contoured wood grip. Knuckle guard has pyramid studs. Metal and leather scabbard fitting has wire belt hanger, retains 50% olive drab painted finish with "JEWELL 1918" maker stamp. The leather scabbard is broken nearly completely across just above the metal tip, but it remains (perilously) attached. Blade is about 9 inches in length. A nice example of the pattern that saw the most service with the doughboys in the trenches
